The Equitable Building in Downtown Atlanta flanks the northern tip of Woodruff Park, along Peachtree street. According to its Wikipedia entry, it has 35 stories and it is 453 feet (138 m) tall. It was designed by the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and completed in 1968.
Having spent five years in Georgia State University, I spent quite a bit of time walking around the park, and it always struck me as a stunning view to look up to the “EQUITABLE” label at the very top of the building. I wonder what font was used?
It reminds me in a way of the monolith in Stanley Kubric’s 2001 Space Odessy. No?
There used to be an older structure in its current location, also called the Equitable building, but it was demolished in 1971.
